The SOC Puppet
[Current Mood |mellowmellow]
[Current Music |Mika Nakashima - CRESCENT MOON]

Still not dead. It was close there, for a bit, though. Every year I have a bout with a nasty flu/cold bug that leaves me bedridden for 2-3 days and wheezing/coughing like an old man for another couple weeks after that. After Christmas rolled in without it happening I thought I was going to avoid it this year. Nothing doing.

Played havoc with any writing, although I've made progress on some original fics, setting up universes for a couple of sci-fi books and another set in a more contemporary environment. Also playing a bit of Initial D Arcade Stage and driving like I can't IRL.

As people who talk to me over AIM no doubt know, I HAVE made some progress on Bloodlines 20, but it's been slow. I did manage to accomplish a feat I'd planned for since the beginning of the series, so hopefully this should speed things up. Longtime readers may know what I'm referring to. If you don't, here's a hint: it completely alters the balance of power in the ninja world from this point onwards.

In that vein, Sparrow (my official page webmistress) and I have come up with something to let readers and artists join in the creative process - an art contest. The current contest involves the new look Hinata from Bloodlines and Kaori, Naruto's fiancee from Set in Stone. Full contest details are available at http://endlessdays.topcities.com/socpuppet/Art.htm. The contest lasts for a month from now, ending February 16, 2006. Send any entries to the address on the link.

There are two first prizes, one for each character - each of them a cameo appearance in The Seagull Factor which you can set up after the contest is over.

I've also occupied myself with looking for a new fandom to branch out into, much like Kraken has already said he's thinking of doing. The stuff I picked up over the holidays is a start. Anyone have a preference among Nuku Nuku, Chrono Crusade, Full Metal Panic, Initial D, My-HiME, Ghost in the Shell SAC and Yakitate Japan?

Grovel, mortals, for he is a great one indeed!

Anyone have a preference among Nuku Nuku, Chrono Crusade, Full Metal Panic, Initial D, My-HiME, Ghost in the Shell SAC and Yakitate Japan?

Full Metal Panic is easily the best one out of that, especially if you can acquire FMP:Fumoffu and FMP 2 1-13 (13 new episodes concluding the story nicely).

Then comes Chrno Crusade, a st ory that, like Full Metal Alchemist, goes from hilarious to deeply-touching and truly wonderful in the end.

The others - Well, My-HiME I had the fortune to read the manga, which is cute at best, I dislike GitS in all forms ... and for Yakitake Japan: Dude, the main character has GLOWING HANDS.... thats just like Orochimaru sleeping with women, plain and simple wrong!

Ack, just watch it all and tell your loyal fans/servants/subjects what ou think of them xD

Oh, and if you didn't watch it yet, get Full Metal Alchemist. It's the best anime I ever had the fortune see.

Steiner, rolling back to bed.... being sick sucks >.

Re: Grovel, mortals, for he is a great one indeed!

I've gotta heapin pile of pennies so thought I'd just toss a couple of em and agree with Steiner here, FMA kicks much ass. Major Armstrong could be Gai's long lost not-quite-twin brother.

As to my prefrence among the listed fandoms, I would have to go with FMP. its a hillarious setting, and there are far to few good fics in it.

Oddly, I'm leaning more towards Yakitate! Japan than to Full Metal Panic or Full Metal Alchemist, probably because of the lack of fic it has. It a hilarious series that revolves around baking instead of war or sports or high school life. Chrno Crusade is a second favorite, because who can resist the nuns-with-guns-and-demonic-best-friends combo?

The soc puppet in a new fandom that could be interesting. I would loved to read a My-HIME fic witing by someone of your talent, Ghost in the shell in second perhaps. But I don't know the others really well, so I'm biaised.
Anyway, whatever your choice I wish you good luck.

Iam glad to see that you are alive and well!
among those you listed my favorite is Yakitate Japan and Initial D... i might be a girl but I so wish I could drive like those guys... but I can't not even on the arcade...

But another anime that is really great is FMA like thesteiner
mentioned...

well those are my 2 cents...

Rejoice!

Thank God your back! I think one thing you often don't realize is that for every person who comments on your posts, there are probably 20 who don't but still love your stories. I've commented once or twice, but i check here about every day hoping for something new. Good to hear that you're still alive out there! Bloodlines is going good: now that's what I like to hear. My personal opinion on the series thing is to stick to Naruto and Bleach, but those are the only two anime I really watch, so I'm obviously biased there. But on the other hand, I often get the impression that there is a large category of people who only watch those series... Anyways, looking forward to updates on the stories, or even new ones from all those ideas on your site.

Just out of curiousity, everyone seems to think this Full Metal Panic is hilarious. Anyone want to give me an overview of that? Quick plot summary or something, so I can decide whether to check it out or not? Thanks.

The Ghost in the Shell: SAC fandom would be all the better if you could crank out some of your amazing fics for it!!!

You're back, that's cool. Can't wait for Bloodlines 20 or anything else. And I think that Fumofuu would be better to branch to then Full Metal Panic: TOS (The Original Series) because it allows more comedy and the mechs. Just so you know.

Hrm... of those I like Mai-Hime (or even Mai Otome, the sequel/AU -- which imo lends itself more to world-building). FMP, esp. the newest one, TSR, is also a very good world to play in.

Btw -- have you tried Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha? It's surprisingly funny, heartwarming, and good. :) I'm actually liking it as much as Mai Otome.

I'm going to cast my vote for Full Metal Panic. Out of the listed it's the only one I've seen/read other than Chrono Crusade and I prefer FMP because it's extremely flexible. It can be action/adventure, serious romance, fluffy romance, romantic comedy, pure comedy, etc. You could concievably write ANY kind of fic for FMP while still keeping the characters in-character.

P.s.
How could I get in contact with you? I tried to e-mail you about something a couple of months ago (could have only been one month, but it's been an eventful month) but never got a reply. If you want to e-mail me my address is wcblack@hotmail.com Thanks

hmmm...

I say FMP and Chrono Chrusade. Reasons? I think I'll pull a Genma Saotome. Read the other ljers' comments - far too lazy to write them (or even copy and paste).

However, FMA is pretty cool - especially with the Brothers song. Probly the best ending song for any anime ever!

Have you ever heard of xxx/holic? Very good manga show. And no, I won't tell you where you can find and dl the manga. Unless, of course, I get some cookies. Chocolate cookies. Chocolate cookies with whipped cream... mmm.

Yeah, anyone ever hear of the Twilight Princess Zelda series? It's looking to be better than OoT! Graphics on par with FFX's FMAs and a storyline twice as long as OoT and a lot more dungeons and challenging creatures and bosses...

Wah... Yo, for those who've seen Chrono Crusade, go play Chrono trigger and/or Chrono Cross. Then come back and say anything with the words Chrono in front sucks. To my face.

I'd hate to be one of those people that cast a "vote" and don't explain it, but I can't really add onto what everybody else has said. Chrono Crusade is a good fandom to branch into, having a good story with already well developed characters.

I've always been a sucker for Chrono Crusade. It would be awesome to see you do a fic for that.

Stick figures count?

I don't overly care much for a chance at a cameo, but wish I'd never stopped sketching, drawing Neo-Hinata or Kaori sound like it'd be fun. Hinata with her little snake getting grumped at by Anko for not calling pythons, or Kaori bouncing Naruto around while Juzo laughs in the background would be fun to try and do. Too bad I can't draw worth squat anymore. ;_;

Those orginal works of yers sound interesting...I don't suppose you'd be willin to say anything more bout them other than sci-fi type or whatnot?

Outta that list FMP and NukuNuku (OVA not the TV version) woul be my preference. Saying that though yer the author write what you wanna, I just want to read it.

Return of the Fic King

I'm glad to hear you're on the mend. I have a friend who's been in a similiar condition, though she much prefers to work even harder when she gets sick. If the Grim Reaper wasn't afraid of that woman, I don't know what'd happen to her. Moving on.

If I had any talent, I certainly would have liked to try and throw my hat into the drawing contest. Of the two fic you've written, I like Set in Stone best. Alas, such has never been my strong suit, so I shall be contented by seeing what pics win. To whoever's participating, good luck!

And now, to recommendations about anime you could branch out into. I think you'd like Chrono Crusade, since it has an interesting storyline with characters that you can't help but like. Same with FMP. It's a real laugh a minute, especially the Fumoffo series, though there's certainly more plot and action to it then that. If you like something with a more scientific feel, GitS is abound with it, and characters you can really empathize with. One of my favorite chars in it is a talking mechanical tank. Nuku Nuku is an amusing anime, though I'm afraid my knowledge of it is limited. I'm afraid I haven't had the pleasure of looking into the others, but I know any one you wish to delve into would become a great fanfic.

I can't wait for whatever updates you have planned, as well as the next fic you could be coming up with.

Hey, good to hear from you again, can't wait for your next update in fanfiction~ :D

As for anime, I've only seen some of My-HiME, which isn't too bad from what I can tell. FMP is really good, with a lot of comedy, mecha action AND has a not bad plotline rolled up in one. :) Initial D...I love the series. The art's really bad for the First Stage and improves with each sequel, but the feel of racing just gets to me, even though I'm not a huge car/racing enthusiast. FMA's also a really good one, too, funny, serious, and unique (My personal favorite kind) though the rest I've never personally seen.

Can't wait for your next chapter release in, well, anything. Though Bloodlines is my personal favorite...^_^

While I would Love nothing more than for you to work on nothing but Set in Stone and Prince of Shadows, in the end you're the boss, and if you want to branch out, well, you haven't let us down thus far, so go for it. As far as which route to go, I say Full Metal Panic. Souske can be taken in so many different directions, I'd like to see your take on him.

Me... I'd suggest Full Metal Panic. Apart from the anime, Fumoffu, and Second Raid, FMP is a constantly evolving story: currently, boku-tachi.net is translating the FMP novels. Second Raid doesn't end the series by a long shot - it's just the anime version of the novel Owari Day By Day. Following ODBD is "A Dancing Very Merry Christmas!", a more light-hearted novel (sorta), before the the more serious tone that is "Continuing On My Own." COMO has a sequel already finished, "Burning One Man Force", and there are a number of FMP sidestories written by novelist Shouji Gatoh, the guy creating FMP. One of them is how Kalinin and Sousuke first met, nd fleshes out just HOW Sousuke ended up in a Russian assassin school before joinind the mujaheddin, and the other is how Tessa and her twin brother Leonard first met Richard Mardukas and joined Mithril.

Initial D is also good, and there's a glut of bad stories flaoting around, which will make it stand out very well, should you write an Initial D fic. ^_^

If you intend to do FMP, I can help beta-ing and checking over the more obscure details of the FMP-verse (like how Hong Kong is a divided city, etc etc.)

BTW... which version of Arcade Stage do you play? I used to play Version 2 with a WRX Type R (Bunta's car), tranferred to version 3, didn't play for 2 years... and now SUCK. -_-

The only version I know of in the local area is IDAS v.3. I've got five cards:

GC8V, the Buntamobile
CN9A Evo IV
EA11R Cappie
FD3SI RX-7 Type R
GDB Impreza WRX (the only AT card)

Ah, right. In Version 2, I have a CN9A Evo VII, although whether it still works is doubtful after the card got run over by a car, and then run through a washing machine.

On Verison 3, I have a GC8V and a GDB Impreza. All cars manual.

WHEW haven't seen you in a while, I thought you had left us T_T. Ah branching out in to other series I like it, Chrno Crusade is one of my all-time faves, but at the same time it is the bane of my existence. have you finished, cause I don't wanna spoil anything for you but I'd love to see what you could do with that series.

FMP is another one of my tops, although I haven't gotten around to watching The Second Raid yet and there isn't really any excuse for that, as I have every ep sitting on my cpu -_-.

But yeah Chrno Crusade is my true love, and as of yet it is the only series that has ever brought me to tears...yes I bawled like a baby and I am not ashamed to say it T_T.

Anyway I'm looking forward to whatever you decide to do as it has been too long since I have read any of your work.

Page is Down

Your account has been suspended because it has gone over the the daily bandwidth limit. You will be able to access your site and control panel starting tomorrow. However, note that if your bandwidth usage goes over the limit again tomorrow, your account will be disabled again for the rest of that day.

*sighs* So if everyone could please layoff going to the site for a bit, I'd appreciate it. I just noticed this, so I'm not sure how long it's been like this. So, when the site gets back up, I'll extend the art contest for another 2 weeks.

If this happens again, I may search for a new webhost.
