Harry Potter Foray Chapter 1 [Jul. 15th, 2007|05:50 pm]
[Current Mood | creative]
[Current Music |Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues]

The Harry Potter fic currently has no title, and is subject to re-editing once Book 7 comes out (in case any more info on the Dursleys comes out in it). It aims to offer what I think is a different perspective on the HP world, and use that to change things up a bit. Forgive any mistakes with British slang/culture; I did the best I could to be authentic, but there's only so much I know.

Story after the jump...

So, What Exactly WERE You Doing All Year? [Jul. 8th, 2007|11:49 pm]
[Current Mood | contemplative]
[Current Music |Team Medical Dragon Original Soundtrack - Blue Dragon]

Good question. I'm still not sure what I was doing some of the time, and I was there.

First off, what I was NOT doing was being dead. It ALMOST happened (see below), but not quite.

Anyway, here's a short summary:

1. Quit my job and left my crooked, amoral boss behind for good. He can have his 2,000+ pending cases, his long-ass appointment lines of people who have absolutely no chance of winning their immigration case, and his letters to the collection agency to get the rest of the money the poor bastards will wind up owing him.

2. Helped set up and work the 2006 election for Orange County. A word of advice, kids: pulling a 22-hour workday on Election Day is neither safe nor fun. Getting a security clearance for Orange County Airport was fun, but those security lines to get TO the Early Voting setup? Not so much.

3. Driving from Orange County to Fresno and back for a job interview, getting rearended in a hit-and-run up in the mountains in the middle of a pouring rainstorm, and somehow surviving with no injuries and the car actually being repairable. Incidentally, if you were planning on playing tourist in the Fresno area? Don't. It's not worth your time.

4. Driving a rental POS (Chevy Aveo hatchback, for anyone crazy enough to want one) for a month. Power windows? Yeah, right. Power locks? You must be dreaming. Any kind of acceleration in traffic at all? A pipe dream. And good luck getting any kind of radio reception at all.

5. Traveled to Taiwan to bury my grandmother, who died of cancer at the age of 85. A quick summary: humidity, heat, morbid-ass funeral, and my extended family is crazy (example: driving mini electric motorcycles up and down a Taipei riverbank - in a thunderstorm, wearing ponchos, 3 hours before my flight back to the US). Also visited my last surviving grandparent (Mother's father), who's survived six strokes and has Alzheimer's. I feel ever so great about my future health prospects.

6. Getting a new job, which regularly requires me to work overtime. I hate overtime, but I love money. It'll do for now. Not so much the 10 PM end to the workday, but money is money.

7. Yes, working on my stories. I keep saying it when people e-mail me or on my old profile pages. IM me. You'll get snippets of what's being worked on.

8. Not only working on the fics, branching out into another fandom (Harry Potter). More on that to come, probably tomorrow night.

And generally, battling depression and real life. There's nothing quite like having to watch your father, the man you grew up idolizing, break down and cry like a child because he couldn't be at his mother's side when she passed on. Tell your loved ones you care about them. You may not get another chance.

More to come. I think.

Boredom Does Strange Things [Apr. 12th, 2006|08:55 pm]
[Current Mood | bored]

Borrowing a meme from [info]worldwalkerpure:

Go to Wikipedia and look up your birth day (excluding the year).
List three neat facts, two births and one death in your journal,
including the year.

The following happened on some long ago August 11th:

480 BC - Persians under Xerxes I defeat Spartans under King Leonidas in the Battle of Thermopylae. The Spartans fought to the last man.

1929 - Babe Ruth becomes the first baseball player to hit 500 home runs in his career with a home run at League Park in Cleveland, Ohio.

1984 - United States President Ronald Reagan, during a voice check for a radio broadcast, remarks, "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes."

1944 - Ian McDiarmid, Scottish actor, who plays Emperor Palpatine in the Star Wars movies, born.

1953 - Terry Bollea, a.k.a. Hulk Hogan, American professional wrestler, born.

1956 - Jackson Pollock, American artist, dies in a car accident.

New Website [Mar. 16th, 2006|09:06 pm]
[Current Mood | blah]

The old website is dead, courtesy of an ornery hosting company, according to Sparrow. New link is http://www.geocities.com/sparrow015/socpuppet/socpuppet.htm. All new fics, etc will wind up here along with FFN, FictionPress, or whatever appropriate pages are out there.

Stay tuned.

Original Fic/Book [Mar. 4th, 2006|03:08 pm]
[Current Mood | blah]

I'm working on something. Really. This is the furthest one along, mostly because I don't have to plan it out as much as some of my more sci-fi ideas.

Not that anyone visits anymore, but what the heck.

By the way, the art contest is canceled. No entries. What a shock.

Updates Galore [Jan. 16th, 2006|08:17 pm]
[Current Mood | mellow]
[Current Music |Mika Nakashima - CRESCENT MOON]

Still not dead. It was close there, for a bit, though. Every year I have a bout with a nasty flu/cold bug that leaves me bedridden for 2-3 days and wheezing/coughing like an old man for another couple weeks after that. After Christmas rolled in without it happening I thought I was going to avoid it this year. Nothing doing.

Played havoc with any writing, although I've made progress on some original fics, setting up universes for a couple of sci-fi books and another set in a more contemporary environment. Also playing a bit of Initial D Arcade Stage and driving like I can't IRL.

As people who talk to me over AIM no doubt know, I HAVE made some progress on Bloodlines 20, but it's been slow. I did manage to accomplish a feat I'd planned for since the beginning of the series, so hopefully this should speed things up. Longtime readers may know what I'm referring to. If you don't, here's a hint: it completely alters the balance of power in the ninja world from this point onwards.

In that vein, Sparrow (my official page webmistress) and I have come up with something to let readers and artists join in the creative process - an art contest. The current contest involves the new look Hinata from Bloodlines and Kaori, Naruto's fiancee from Set in Stone. Full contest details are available at http://endlessdays.topcities.com/socpuppet/Art.htm. The contest lasts for a month from now, ending February 16, 2006. Send any entries to the address on the link.

There are two first prizes, one for each character - each of them a cameo appearance in The Seagull Factor which you can set up after the contest is over.

I've also occupied myself with looking for a new fandom to branch out into, much like Kraken has already said he's thinking of doing. The stuff I picked up over the holidays is a start. Anyone have a preference among Nuku Nuku, Chrono Crusade, Full Metal Panic, Initial D, My-HiME, Ghost in the Shell SAC and Yakitate Japan?

Strange Request [Oct. 31st, 2005|03:32 pm]
[Current Mood | inspired]
[Current Music |Bally Sagoo - Dil Cheez (remix)]

This may sound strange, but it's Halloween. I'm entitled to be weird tonight.

Is there anyone out there who knows enough Hindi to help me come up with a suitable title for a Bollywood movie (for one of my original fics)? If so, please leave a comment. A cookie and a reward may be pending if you can help.

No, I'm Not Dead. [Oct. 28th, 2005|08:10 pm]
[Current Mood | lethargic]
[Current Music |Rammstein - Links 2 3 4]

Updates since last time:

-A week off work due to burnout.
-Four days in Las Vegas doing manual labor and chauffeuring (don't ask).
-General decline in interest in Naruto.
-Copious amounts of Prince of Tennis, Tsubasa, xxxHolic, etc reading.
-Muse decides she is now supplying nothing but ideas for original fics/books.
-Beginning the writing of said book(s).
-Too much batting cage swinging resulting in jacked-up left (writing) shoulder.
-Attempt to continue Naruto fics progressing - slowly.

So no, I'm not dead. I'm just working on things that I'm not entirely sure people here would be interested in and that I need to think about copyrighting before I post.

Weekly Fix #14: The Further Adventure of Bloodlines Ch. 20 [Aug. 21st, 2005|10:09 pm]
[Current Mood | drained]

Too many hearings and other assorted crap at work the last month or so, including waking up at 5 AM to drive into Los Angeles, leaves this writer with no muse and lousy health. I'm doing my best to keep up. Doesn't seem to be working too well.

A small bit of Bloodlines 20, to keep you tided over until Kraken gets done betaing Prince ofShadows.

Weekly Fix #13: Prince of Shadows, Part 3 [Jul. 31st, 2005|04:46 pm]
[Current Mood | lethargic]
[Current Music |Asian Kung-Fu Generation - Rewrite]

I promise more Bleach next chapter. This is the last of the fully Naruto-centric setup. Expect a twist on the Quincy war AND on the structure and use of zanpaku-tos.

Cookies for those who can accurately determine what series I crossed a character over from in this chapter.

On the Week to Come [Jul. 26th, 2005|09:17 am]
[Current Mood | blah]
[Current Music |Fat Joe - J.O.S.E.]

The last two Weekly Fixes died a noble death, sacrificing themselves so I could finish Set in Stone Chapter 5, 10,000+ words now posted at my site and at FFN, even with their horrendous formatting coding. That, and it was hot and humid as hell in Southern California - still is. I wonder how I even got the motivation to work on Stone in that weather.

I am now working on the third part of Prince of Shadows, so kraken should be pleased if he manages to drag himself away from wherever he went (back to the dig site?). Expect weird disguised crossover with non-Bleach series, maybe more than one.

Also continuing to work on Bloodlines 20. As there are three main scenes (and battles) interspersed through the chapter, expect this to take a while. I fervently hope the transitions between each flow well, which they should, given that each transition is like another step in a countdown towards the climax.

My website has also been updated with a section called Crazy Muse no Jutsu, sort of a storage house for ideas not yet written. Check it out if you want to see the ideas I am provided while in the shower. I swear my muse has a twisted sense of humor. Probably watched too many Holiday Inn Express commercials.

Stupidity Reigns Supreme Worldwide [Jul. 7th, 2005|08:54 am]
[Current Mood | shocked]
[Current Music |Workaday Blues]

The people of London should be in our thoughts today, although from the reaction I've seen, they don't really need the emotional support so much as the whereabouts of the jackasses who perpetrated this crime to give them a boot in the ass (or whatever punishment floats your boat). Tough crowd, those Britons.

So pray to whoever you like, but do it.

Plans For A Long Weekend [Jun. 23rd, 2005|10:27 pm]
[Current Mood | artistic]
[Current Music |Watching Mahoraba Episode 2]

AnimeExpo, July 1-4, in Anaheim, CA.

This year, I actually know it's coming beforehand, unlike last year, when I registered at literally the last minute online. I'm going. My wallet is going. Budgets are going to be pulverized. And readers, if they think it's actually worth wasting time on, are going to be met.

I will not be cosplaying, however. I save that for people with far more time. XD
